President’s Message
Welcome to the Michigan Medical Directors Association website. We are the Michigan Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (MIMDA) which is the state chapter of the American Medical Directors Association. We represent professional caregivers that work in post-acute and long-term and assisted living facilities, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, nurses, dieticians, and therapists of many stripes.
This is our tribe. Our organization is composed of people who understand these unique settings for medical care. Like our work, we are team-based. We welcome anyone who works in these arenas to peruse our pages and participate with us. We provide educational opportunities with continuing education credits that are unique to our space. In addition, we engage with entities that impact our care settings, advocating for policies to support the best care possible for our residents.
During COVID-19 we recognized some of the gaps in communal living health care, and are striving to improve that. Communication is a big one. How does the government share real-time changes to recommendations for protecting our residents, treatment protocols and mechanisms for procuring needed resources? We are working to address this concern.
We also are developing pathways for our partners in HCAM, Leading Age, and the Bureau of Survey and Certification to work collaboratively. We have worked with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs on MiPost, best practices in infection control, and now wound care.
Our annual meeting is a great opportunity for networking with others in our field, and sharing issues and solutions to our common challenges. We have an educational session that provides up-to-date, evidence-based best practices. Our parent organization, AMDA, offers many resources, from practice management information, clinical guidelines, podcasts, to quality improvement and workforce roundtables.
If you like what you see, please join us. If you would like to know more, please contact us at 734-788-9635 or contact us at michiganmda@gmail.com. I can personally be reached at 734-765-7153. Nurse Practitioners who belong to the state chapter of GAPNA have the opportunity to join MIMDA at half-price of the regular rate.
We are interested in your ideas of how MIMDA can help your practice and have more influence in long-term care in Michigan. Please reach out and share your thoughts.
