6/1/2018 Michigan LARA Update – MI Opioid Law (pdf)

1. The definitions of inpatient and administration have been clarified to include all of our patients/residents that reside in a facility. All of these folks are exempt from both MAPS checking and the opioid education form.
2. For patients NOT in facilities, the education and signature is needed for NEW opioid prescriptions on or after June 1, 2018 and not necessary for refills of a continued prescription.
3. “The MAPS mandate is tied to the date the prescription is issued, not the date it is filled or subsequent refill dates” which means that MAPS for refills is not required.
